*Use toothpaste with fluoride in it.
*Visit your dentist for a check-up at least twice a year. He might give you a special fluoride solution that you can rinse with to help keep your teeth healthy.

Smoking can also lead to gum disease. Patients who smoke are more likely to produce bacterial plaque, which leads to gum disease. The gums are affected because smoking causes a lack of oxygen in the bloodstream, so the infected gums fail to heal. Smoking causes people to have more dental plaque and for gum disease to progress more rapidly than in non-smokers. Gum disease still remains the most common cause of tooth loss in adults. Most people know that smoking can cause lung and throat cancer, but many people are still unaware that it is one of the main causes of mouth cancer too. Every year thousands of people die from mouth cancer brought on by smoking. Stop smoking benefits can live you better and live longer!

Tobacco can cause the teeth to become yellow and develop cavities. What you should do is to limit the number of cigarettes in a day. Or if you can't really stop smoking, then opt for whitening solutions and treatments.

* Brush your teeth twice in a day
* Access fluoride toothpaste
* Floss daily or access inter-dental brushes for those hard to reach areas
* Change your toothbrush at least every three months
* Chew sugar free gum after meals to neutralise the harmful acid that can cause plaque and tooth decay
* Try eating sugar-free yoghurt, as this lowers the levels of hydrogen sulphide, the major cause of bad breath
